Our Story

It Started With Two Hunting Dogs.

GriffonDor started with something pretty simple: we wanted two really good hunting dogs.

At the time, we were researching different breeds and trying to find the right fit for our family. We loved hunting and being outdoors, but we were also planning to have a baby. We knew we didn't just want dogs with a strong hunting drive—we needed dogs that could come home after a day in the field and truly be part of our family.

That's what led us to the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon.

We brought home our first two Griffons and quickly realized there was something special about the breed. They were incredibly smart, fun to work with, and driven in the field. But when they walked through the door at home, they became amazing companions.

Darrell became fascinated with learning everything he could about them. What started as learning how to properly train and care for our own dogs grew into studying the breed, working with trainers, building relationships with other breeders, and learning more about hunting development, health, genetics, and what these dogs need to reach their potential.

Then we lost one of our original Griffons, Reed.

Reed, along with Iliamna, was named after places in Alaska—a place that has always represented a dream for Darrell and our family. Losing Reed had a much bigger impact than we expected. It made Darrell realize how much these dogs, the outdoors, and everything he had learned along the way had become part of the life he wanted to build.

That experience helped shape what GriffonDor would become.

Darrell knew he wanted to breed exceptional-quality Griffons, but he wanted GriffonDor to be about more than producing great dogs. He wanted to keep learning—to understand the breed, training, development, health, and the challenges that can come along the way—so we could become a knowledgeable and dependable resource for every family who chooses one of our dogs.

Because when someone brings home a GriffonDor puppy, we don't want our relationship to end on go-home day.

We want to be there as that puppy grows—to answer questions, help families understand their dog, provide guidance when challenges come up, celebrate accomplishments, and continue learning alongside them.

That's why we think of the people who choose GriffonDor as part of our family.
